“Three Types of Forest, Four Benefits”
A Sustainable Concept by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej
His Majesty King Bhumibol introduced a simple and cost-effective approach to sustainable land use known as the concept of “Three Types of Forest for Four Benefits.”
The three types of forest are:
- Forests for timber and construction
- Forests for fruit and edible plants
- Forests for fuel, such as firewood and bamboo
The four benefits are:
- Shelter — Wood for building homes or for sale
- Food — Agricultural and herbal plants for daily consumption
- Utility — Materials for daily use and energy
- Ecological balance — Forests that restore and preserve the ecosystem
This idea reflects the philosophy of Sufficiency Economy, promoting self-reliance, environmental harmony, and long-term sustainability.

In honor of the royal initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, who places great importance on the conservation of coral reefs, marine life, and the Andaman Sea ecosystem. The Nature Conservation Foundation of Thailand, together with government agencies, organizations, and local communities, is carrying out activities to preserve marine resources.
The goal is to make coastal areas sustainable and balanced, so they can benefit both people and nature. The project also aims to encourage participation from all sectors — government, private organizations, and citizens — in the protection of coral reefs and marine life in Thailand.
By spreading this initiative among Thai people and international visitors, the project highlights the value and benefits of cooperation in preserving marine nature and ecosystems.
